This collection contains materials used by Paul Ringenbach in writing his book about Brigadier General Robert F. McDermott. Items included are topical files, 1954-1969; military and civilian files pertaining to McDermott, 1920-1993; articles written by McDermott, 1959-1992; oral histories of General McDermott as well as those of family, friends and contemporaries, 1954-2006; secondary sources consisting of excerpts of books and other materials, 1966-2004; and photographs of McDermott, his family, and activities at the Academy used by Col. Ringenbach in his book.

Paul T. Ringenbach was born in New York City and earned undergraduate and Master's degrees in history from Lehigh University and his Ph.D. in history from the University of Connecticut. As an active duty Captain and then Major in the Air Force, he taught history at USAFA from 1964-1966 and 1968-1972.
